Date: February 24, 2012
Time: Noon to 1:00 pm

Terry Heiman-Patterson, MD
Title: "Murine models of ALS and application to genetic studies"
Speaker: Terry Heiman-Patterson, MD
Professor and Vice Chair of Neurology
Drexel University College of Medicine
About the Speaker: Dr. Heiman-Patterson's research has focused on ALS and includes both clinical and laboratory interests. Under her direction, the Center of Hope has conducted more than 20 clinical trials. In addition to trials her clinical research is directed at extending survival and improving the quality of life. This work has led to studies that examine how to maximize the use of non-invasive ventilation (bipap) as well as better address nutritional needs and exploration of autonomic involvement in ALS. She has also initiated a program to develop the BCI (Brain computer interface) for home based use by people living with ALS in order to allow an increased independence.
