Matt Goupell, Ph.D.
(Research Scientist)
I received my B.S. in physics and mathematics at Hope College in Holland, MI in 2001. I received my M.S. and Ph.D. in physics at Michigan State University in 2005. I studied with Dr. William Hartmann and my dissertation was on psychological acoustics and incoherence detection.

In 2006, I became a post-doctoral researcher with Dr. Bernhard Laback in Vienna, Austria. I worked on sound localization problems in cochlear implant users. I also worked on understanding German for non-native speakers.

In 2009, I moved to Madison, WI to work with Dr. Ruth Litovsky on more binaural hearing in cochlear-implant users. In particular, I am studying incoherence detection and binaural masking-level differences in cochlear-implant users.

My additional interests include: teaching physics and acoustics, understanding the three-dimensional differential calculus of flying discs, and mechanics of soils and herbaceous organisms.
