Naming Opportunity for the
Image Analysis Laboratory
$1M
The Image
Analysis Laboratory contains approximately 20 computer
workstations used for image analysis and image post-processing,
as is therefore the analytic hub of the lab. This room is the
location where most of the data from the laboratory are analyzed
for virtually all studies. It is also the room in which most of
our trainees, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows spend
a considerable amount of time working on image analysis. This
room is also extensively used for training. We conduct training
workshops on image analysis that are attended by trainees and
faculty. The workstations in this facility need constant
upgrading and replacement. They were last replaced in Fall,
2004. They need replacing approximately every two years as
technology advances. In addition, some of the software that
runs on these workstations is expensive and requires constant
upgrading. Moreover, each of the workstations is connected to
our storage area network (SAN) that provides large-scale storage
and back-up. We currently have approximately 15 terabytes of
online storage and we must add approximately 6 terabytes per
year of new disk space. Each workstation costs approximately
$2500 and each terabyte costs approximately $10,000.

A gift of
$1M to the Brain Imaging Laboratory Endowment would provide a
naming opportunity for this important facility. These funds
would guarantee long-term appointments for two key members of
our team, an expert on fMRI post-processing, and a
full-time system administrator for the Brain Imaging Lab.
