What is
happening in your brain as you talk, read or try to remember a
person’s name? What is happening in the brain when people have
difficulty learning or performing these tasks?
What parts of the brain are activated when you experience
happiness, fear or love? What role do these emotions play in our
health and development?
Waisman Center scientists explore these questions every day
using the most powerful tools and expertise available. We
investigate the development of language and cognition in young
children, study the neural circuits that underlie changes in the
adolescent brain, and examine emotion regulation in aging
adults.

MRI, PET and EEG each provide different information about the
brain. Combining these images gives us the most complete and
powerful picture of brain structure and function. What makes the
Waisman Center Brain Imaging Laboratory so unique is that these
three state-of-the-art brain imaging technologies are all housed
under one roof, at the fingertips of some of the most talented
scientists in the world.
