42. The Nature of Human Attachment in Infancy (1986)
New!family

Running Time: 56 minutes
This video serves as an introduction to the attachment process for practitioners, families, faculty and students. It is the first in a series which explores infant well-being. The segment seeks to understand how bonds between parents and infants are formed; how and why they may fail to form; why the bonds may develop in shallow, anxious or conflicted ways; and what difference the quality of the bonds makes in the development of the child. Video clips of families are used to demonstrate how the bonding process may differ among children in the same family. One family has a set of twins, while the other family has a child who is typically developing and a child with special needs.

family

Running Time: 10 minutes
Authentic and informative, this video may ease parents' concerns about a baby's crying, which may or may not have a discernible cause. It gives suggestions on how to pacify a crying child, and how to tell when the child should be taken to a doctor. It also emphasizes that caregivers' own emotional states can affect their babies' emotional states. Both men and women of different ethnic groups are portrayed as parents dealing with this situation.
