42. The Nature of Human Attachment in Infancy
(1986)

Running Time: 56 minutes
This video serves as an introduction to the attachment process
for practitioners, families, faculty and students. It is the
first in a series which explores infant well-being. The segment
seeks to understand how bonds between parents and infants are
formed; how and why they may fail to form; why the bonds may
develop in shallow, anxious or conflicted ways; and what difference
the quality of the bonds makes in the development of the child.
Video clips of families are used to demonstrate how the bonding
process may differ among children in the same family. One family
has a set of twins, while the other family has a child who is
typically developing and a child with special needs.

43. Comforting Your Fussy Baby (1986)

Running Time: 10 minutes
Authentic and informative, this video may ease parents' concerns
about a baby's crying, which may or may not have a discernible
cause. It gives suggestions on how to pacify a crying child,
and how to tell when the child should be taken to a doctor. It
also emphasizes that caregivers' own emotional states can affect
their babies' emotional states. Both men and women of different
ethnic groups are portrayed as parents dealing with this situation.

44. Tips for Positive Parenting (1993)

Running Time: 18 minutes
This video features discussion with mothers and fathers who share
tips for being positive and motivated parents. Parents talk about
setting limits and positive discipline practices that work for
them. They address safety issues, and discuss how they take care
of themselves and manage their own feelings of frustration or
anger to remain positive with their children. It is an excellent
resource to share with families. The booklet, Tips on Discipline,
is included to further illustrate the ideas presented in the
video. The video is closed captioned.

In part one, behavior analyst Dr. Dena Saxe and psychologist
Dr. Menry Schwartz discuss common behavior problems in children
(e.g., non compliance, anxiety) and discuss their approaches.
Possible causes for behavior problems are outlined. Typical mistakes
parents make using behavior management techniques are described.
Technical language may make video hard to follow for people not
in this field. Part two of the video focuses on implementing
the behavior management techniques discussed in part one. Suggestions
for building a behavior management program are offered. Both
videos come with a parent and an instructor's guide. Both tapes
are available in Spanish and English.
