FRAGILE X RESEARCH:
Making the Next Five Years Count: A Parent’s Perspective

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The presentation will last about 45 minutes, followed by a question and answer session.
The following topics will be discussed:
 

•  The past 10 years in Fragile X research—what have we learned?
•  Current research aimed at finding treatments and a cure
•  Ways to speed up research
 

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Katie Clapp is the President and Executive Director of FRAXA Research Foundation, a grass-roots non-profit organization that directly funds research on Fragile X syndrome. She is a parent of two children who have Fragile X, Andrew (15) and Laura (12). After her children were diagnosed in 1994, Katie and her husband, Michael Tranfaglia, M.D., along with parent Kathy May, founded FRAXA to accelerate research aimed at finding specific treatments and a cure for Fragile X. FRAXA has funded over $7.5 million in grants and fellowships at universities around the world.

Katie earned a B.A. in History from Harvard College in 1982 and a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in 1987. She worked as a software engineer and adjunct professor in Computer Science before becoming involved with Fragile X research and advocacy.
