Effective April 2, 2008, the UW Waisman Center joins the School of Nursing, the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, the UW School of Pharmacy, UW Medical Foundation and the UW Hospital and Clinics in becoming 100 percent smoke free.
Smoking and second-hand smoke is widely recognized as the single most important cause of preventable human disease, including lung cancer, heart disease and emphysema. As health science leaders, our institutions have a responsibility to implement a policy that promotes a healthy environment for all patients, visitors, employees, students and medical trainees.
The smoke-free policy applies to all employees, students, patients, visitors, vendors, contractors and faculty. For more information on the policy, FAQs, and smoking cessation, please visit www.uwhealth.org/tobaccofree.
