Research Questions
Our research investigates social cognitive development in infancy and early childhood. We are currently most interested in understanding the development of social categories and inter-group preferences.
We ask questions such as:
When do children come to see themselves and others as belonging to different social categories such as gender, race, ethnicity, and social class?
What mechanisms support the development of social categories and preferences, and what are the cognitive and affective consequences of children's earliest social category formation?
Which social distinctions matter most to young children? How does this change over development?
How does immersion in a particular culture affect children's attitudes toward different social groups?
