Waisman Center–WECP

Staff

The WECP staff work in classroom teams comprised of two teachers and a teaching assistant. Teachers have at least a Bachelor's degree, are trained in either early childhood education or early childhood special education, and typically have many years of experience. Teaching assistants are trained in child development and/or child care. In addition, a student trainee or employed student is present in each classroom. This collaborative team allows us to maintain a low teacher‐child ratio throughout the program.

In addition to our teaching staff, the WECP has two experienced therapists: occupational, and speech and language. While they primarily provide therapy to individual children with identified special needs, they often work in the classrooms or with small groups of children. They also work with classroom teachers, and are available to all families for consultation and individual work, as their schedules allow.

Parents and Staff as Partners

Families are welcome to visit and participate in classroom programs whenever they would like. The facility is equipped with observation areas, and there are planned family conferences, pot lucks and picnics, and Family Fun Days sponsored by the WECP PTO.
