Overview
Success in the classroom, in the community, and on the job requires that young people are healthy. It is therefore imperative that young people with health issues have the knowledge and skills needed to maintain and sustain their health and wellness. To ensure this, health related goals need to be included in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Background
Over the past several years, staff from the regional Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) Centers in the state of Wisconsin have received an increased number of questions from parents and providers regarding medical issues and the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). In an effort to address some of these questions, three PowerPoint presentations were developed along with companion handouts. CYSHCN regional staff hope that this cd–rom will provide a core knowledge base on this very important topic. For additional information and/or resources, please contact your regional Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Center.
Purpose
The primary purposes of this cd-rom are:
- To collect materials on this topic in one location
- To empower professionals with the content to present on this topic
- To nurture an ongoing dialogue around health and the IEP amont youth, families, health providers, and school teams
How to Use
This cd-rom includes a variety of information about Health and the IEP including:
- Three PowerPoint presentations detailing how and why health–related matters can be included in the IEP
- Handout packets that correspond to each PowerPoint
- Resource handouts on a variety of topics related to health and school
You are invited to use and tailor this information to your audience, although we ask that original authorship and credit be respected.
