Join patients, staff and friends of the Biochemical Genetics Clinic for a showing of “The Low-Phe Life.”

“The Low-Phe Life” is an animated-documentary series about the lighter side of living with a rare metabolic disorder. Some people with inborn errors of metabolism, such as Phenylketonuria (PKU), must adhere to a strict low protein diet and drink a supplemental formula for their entire life. For some people, this means they can only have two to three grams of protein per day, when the average person consumes 100 grams of protein per day! Having to maintain such a strict regimen means one little mishap and things can go awry quickly. This series focuses on embracing the humor that can be found in these unexpected, stressful situations. The Low-Phe Life is made possible by National PKU News, the oldest IEM support and advocacy organization in the United States.
