Town Hall Meeting: Supporting the Safety of Patients, Staff and Visitors to the Waisman Center

November 2, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Waisman Center Presents:

Title: Supporting the Safety of Patients, Staff and Visitors to the Waisman Center

Speakers: Sarah Marshall, CCC-SLP and Erin Thomson, MSW, LCSW –
Co-leads for the Clinics Behavioral Emergency Response Team

About the Talk: The Waisman Center Clinics serve more than 2,000 patients with developmental and/or genetic disabilities each year. Some of them require accommodations to ensure a safe visit to clinic. At times, some children display challenging behavior before, during or after their visit. A Behavior Response Team (BERT) has been established to respond to these situations and ensure the safety of the patient, staff, students and visitors in the vicinity of a crisis situation. This town hall will review the types of behaviors that most commonly occur, how the BERT team responds, and what you can do to support the clinics if you find yourself in the middle of a behavioral situation. We will also review procedures building-wide for responding when a child or vulnerable adult is missing.
