Jane Coleman was born and raised in Ohio and received a BA in creative writing from Northwestern University. She served as executive director of the Madison Community Foundation where she originated A Fund for Women, and later as director of the Great Performance Campaign. Her community interests have included Edgewood College, Madison Repertory Theatre and the Chazen Museum of Art Council. Coleman was a member of the inaugural class of In Business magazine’s Hall of Fame, received the Visionary Award from the Madison Community Foundation, was named a YWCA Woman of Distinction, and in 2003 was named one of Madison’s “All Time Top 125” difference makers by Madison Magazine. She was granted an honorary doctorate of humanities by Edgewood College and is a member of the International Women’s Forum. Coleman lives in Madison and has three daughters and six grandchildren.
