Research Statement

The work in our lab is focused on understanding the factors that contribute to dementia. This includes factors such as metabolic syndrome, vascular risk factors, diet, lifetime residential history exposures, and the gut microbiome. Methods used in our lab include magnetic resonance imaging, PET, cognitive testing, and leveraging novel fluid biomarker outcomes. Funded studies are examining imaging and fluid-based measures of neurodegeneration, determining the contribution of gut microbiome to brain changes in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, investigating the impact of neighborhood residence on brain and cognitive outcomes, and testing interventions to improve cognitive outcomes.
