The NMS offers transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) using Magstim BiStim2 and Super Rapid2 stimulators.
The BiStim2 consists of two 2002 units combined with a connecting module which allows precise coordination of magnetic pulses from the two devices. The BiStim2 generates monophasic pulses and can be used for single-pulse and paired-pulse TMS experiments. Paired-pulse experiments can be performed using one or two coils with inter-stimulus intervals (ISI) ranging from 0-999 ms. The NMS provides access to a figure-8 D70mm Remote Control Coil for use with the Bistim2. Investigators interested in performing dual-coil experiments will need to provide their own secondary coil.
The Super Rapid2 generates biphasic pulses and can be used for single-pulse or repetitive TMS experiments. The Super Rapid2 supports high-frequency and theta burst stimulation protocols and has been upgraded to utilize a 230V power supply for expanded power x frequency capabilities. An integrated touch screen display can be used to program stimulation protocols and display motor evoked potentials (MEP) recorded with the EMG module. The SR can be operated with the D70mm Remote Control Coil (only in single-pulse mode), the Air Film Coil, or the Air Film Sham Coil.
