Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defects, affecting 1% of all babies. Children with critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) require heart surgery or other intervention before their first birthday. In addition to their medical needs, children with CCHD are more likely to struggle with their physical, cognitive, social, emotional and behavioral development.
