Allison Ebert, PhD Associate Professor, Medical College of Wisconsin Profile About the Speaker: Dr. Allison Ebert received undergraduate degrees in chemistry and psychology from Indiana University, a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Northwestern University, and post-doctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology, and Anatomy at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the director of the Neuroscience Doctoral Program. Her research interests include understanding the contribution of astrocytes and microglia to motor neuron loss in both spinal muscular atrophy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the mechanisms of sensory neuron sensitization in sickle cell disease, and the impact of herpesvirus infection on neurodevelopment and Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Dr. Ebert’s lab uses human induced pluripotent stem cells to model neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration using mono-culture, co-culture, and organoid systems in combination with a variety of transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and gene therapy approaches to better understand disease-relevant mechanisms and effects of therapeutic interventions.
