Health Disparities Report Now Available

The University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) at the Waisman Center has just released its final report about last fall’s Invitational Conference on Health Disparities and Developmental Disabilities in Wisconsin. The 36-page report, A Wisconsin Blueprint to Improve the Health of Individuals with Developmental Disabilities, provides background information on health disparities and lists 31 Action Steps related to four major areas: attitudes and assumptions about disability and health; organization and financing; training of health care providers; and information, assistance, and advocacy. This report is the latest in a series of activities of the Waisman Center UCEDD to support and follow up on the national initiative that was begun in 2001 by then Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D. Sponsoring the report along with the Waisman Center are the Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities and the Wisconsin Coalition for Advocacy, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services.
