Maggie Kessenich, Waisman Center Communications Intern
Ruth Munz, a university associate in the Waisman Early Childhood Program, received the Excellence in Early Education Award last month after nomination from her co-workers. She was honored at Jazzin, the annual fundraiser for campus childcare and acknowledgement of exceptional early education teachers and leaders on campus.
In presenting Munz with the award, she was recognized for her unparalleled quality of support for the administration, staff and parents over the past ten years. She is responsible for handling all university paperwork, billing enrolled families, providing tours of the facility and responding to inquiries from parents and visitors. However, her colleagues assured the nominating committee that she extends herself far beyond the job description and is the face of the center.
Munz is recognized for going above and beyond. Before the start of each year, she learns all of the children’s names and classrooms so that she can personally greet each one of them. She always puts aside whatever she is doing to engage with the children.
This award is a small token of appreciation for Munz’s energy and responsiveness that has greatly served children, families and staff.
