About the Speaker: Harrison Gabel is an associate professor of neuroscience at Washington University in St Louis. Since establishing his laboratory in 2015, he has studied mechanisms of gene regulation in the brain and investigated how disruption of these mechanisms can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders. His group has identified new epigenetic mechanisms mediated by neuron enriched non-CpG DNA methylation and the Rett syndrome protein MeCP2, and shown that this gene regulatory pathway is susceptible to disruption across multiple genetic causes of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). His ongoing work is exploring the potential for molecular convergence across epigenetic ASD genes. His lab is utilizing emerging genomic technologies, including spatial transcriptomics, to decipher the impact of mutations in these genes on transcription and neuroanatomy at cellular resolution in the brain.
