The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) has announced that Gail Chodron of the Waisman Center has been chosen to recieve the 2011 Young Professional Award in recognition of her contributions to the Association and the disabilities field.
Chodron is an Outreach Specialist for the Waisman Resource Center, which is part of the Univeristy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). As stated in the nomination letter by The Waisman Center: “Gail has become a highly valued member of the team at the Waisman Center UCEDD. She brings intelligence and an incredible set of skills to her work, including her technical knowledge; public health research training; writing, curricular, teaching and facilitating abilities which are significant; and personal empathy. She often provides the “voice of reason” and is able to facilitate interactions between groups by providing reflective feedback and personal perspective in appropriate ways. She is well organized and always approaches her work with a positive attitude, believing in the potential of individuals and our collective ability to contribute to meaningful change. Gail is becoming an exemplary leader who bridges the gap between the academic sector and the community.”
Presentation of this award WAS made at a special ceremony during AUCD’s Annual Meeting. The awards ceremony was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Crystal City, VA.
