Impact Report 2024 Introduction

Dear Waisman Community:

Qiang Chang, PhD

For more than 50 years the Waisman Center has been at the intersection of discovery and hope – forging new paths in research and clinical care. One of our strengths is the diversity and breadth of the research, service, training, and outreach efforts that take place under our roof and extend out to the community. The work is transformative in the advances we make and in the care that we provide for individuals and families impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities and neurodegenerative diseases.

I am delighted to highlight a selection of this year’s achievements and advances within the pages of our impact report. As you flip through the pages, there is so much promise for future treatments and interventions as we broaden our understanding of aging in autism and Down syndrome, make earlier diagnosis of cerebral palsy, and include individuals with lived experience as advisors and co-researchers. Standing together on the foundation we jointly built, we are excited about all kinds of opportunities on the horizon and look to accomplish even more in the years to come.

You have been an invaluable partner to our success up to now. Your new contributions will sustain the center’s mission and enable us to continue to improve the lives of individuals and families with IDD through research, service, training, and outreach activities.

On behalf of the entire Waisman community, thank YOU.
Best wishes for 2025!
