SPEAK: Speech Production Enhancement using AAC for Kids (Hustad)

Help us understand how speech intelligibility changes when a person uses communication tablets or boards to support speech while talking. We are recruiting children and youth who: 1.) are between 7 and 17 years of age who have cerebral palsy or another similar motor condition; 2.) have speech that may be hard for others to understand (ranging from very mild to severe); 3.) are able to point to pictures or letters using a hand; 4.) come from a home where English is the primary language. The study will involve 1-2 visits to the Waisman Center to participate in speaking tasks, learn to use tablets or boards to support speech, and complete speech and language assessments. Our team of speech language pathologists has extensive expertise in working with individuals with cerebral palsy and other neurodevelopment motor disabilities. All activities are participant centered; breaks are provided as needed. An honorarium for time and travel will be provided. We welcome people from all over the U.S. for this study.
